Basil essential oil has been popular in Europe, Central Asia, India and Southeast Asia.  It is widely used by ancient cultures such as India for medicinal purposes (Ayurveda). Used for diarrhea, coughs and mucous discharges, constipation and indigestion, and skin diseases.  It is also used in providing relief from colds, influenza and associated fevers. Due to its antispasmodic nature, it is used in cases of whooping cough.  Basil essential oil has a refreshing and calming effect and hence it is used for treating nervous conditions.  Regular use of the essential oil can help with mental strength and clarity.  Basil essential oil is also a good treatment for itching from bites and stings from honey bees, insects and even snakes. 

Aromatic Description: Sweet, herbaceous, licorice-like, slightly campherous.

Possible Uses: Bronchitis, colds, coughs, exhaustion, flatulence, flu, gout, insect bites, insect repellent, muscle aches, rheumatism, sinusitis.
